Air Fryer Scotch Eggs: A Guide to Perfectly Crispy and Flavorful Eggs

An air fryer scotch egg is a delightful appetizer or main course that combines the flavors of a classic scotch egg with the convenience of an air fryer. It has a crispy outer shell, a moist and tender egg yolk, and a flavorful sausage filling.

Ingredients:

For the outer shell:

* 1 pound ground pork sausage
* 1/2 cup bread crumbs
* 1 egg
* 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* Salt and pepper to taste

For the inner layer:

* 6 hard-boiled eggs, peeled
* 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

For the coating:

* 1 cup all-purpose flour
* 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
* 2 teaspoons paprika
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
* 1 egg
* 1/2 cup milk

Instructions:

1. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
2. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork sausage, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the ingredients are evenly combined.
3. Divide the sausage mixture into 6 equal portions.
4. Take one portion of the sausage mixture and flatten it into a patty. Place a hard-boiled egg in the center and wrap the sausage mixture around the egg, forming a ball.
5. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the remaining eggs.
6. Roll the scotch eggs in the flour, then dip them into the egg-milk mixture, and finally roll them in the panko breadcrumb mixture.
7. Place the scotch eggs in the air fryer basket and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Tips:

* To make sure the eggs are fully cooked, use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius).
* If you don't have panko breadcrumbs, you can use regular bread crumbs.
* You can also use different types of sausage, such as chicken sausage or turkey sausage.
* Serve the scotch eggs with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise.
